Astrakhanskoye is a giant sour gas field located on the southwestern margin of the Precaspian Basin, on the Russian-Kazakh border. The reservoir is deep and high-pressure, and the gas quality is very poor with contaminants accounting for 47.3% of well-head production.Annual production of sulphur is over 3 million tonnes, making it one of the largest sulphur producing fields globally.
