The Astrakhanskoye field is a giant, sour gas field located on the southwestern margin of the Precaspian Basin, on the Russian-Kazakh border. The reservoir is deep and high-pressure, and the gas quality is very poor with contaminants accounting for 50% of well-head gas production.
