The Beatrice oil field in the Inner Moray Firth came onstream in 1981 and was one of only a few developments on the UKCS that could be seen from land. It was also the first UK oil platform to utilise wind power to support power generation. The field ceased production in 2014 and is currently being decommissioned. With four platforms, over 40 wells and subsea infrastructure, decommissioning at Beatrice will be a complex process. The proximity of the Beatrice Offshore Windfarm which surrounds the oil facilities introduces further challenges. Decommissioning at the field could extend into the 2030's, 17 years after field cessation.
