Block 18 encompasses the Pata and Palo Azul fields, discovered in 1998 and 1999, respectively. The fields are located in the Oriente basin, at the Northeast of the Ecuadorian Amazon region, in the Orellana province. The Ecuadorian NOC (or Petroecuador as of 2021) operates both blocks since 2010 after the former partners declined to migrate from a concession to a service contract scheme under the new Hydrocarbons Law.Production from Pata and Palo Azul has been steadily declining since 2015. ...
