Block XIII encompasses Block XIII-A and Block XIII-B and it is located northwest of Peru and overlaps the Talara and Sechura basins. Before Olympic Peru acquired the block in 1996 14 wells had been drilled, some of them dating as far back as the 1950s. There was some minor oil production from the area, but the wells were all shut-in when Olympic assumed control.
