Boscán is a large oil field west of Lake Maracaibo that has produced heavy oil for over sixty years. In July 1996, Chevron took over operation of the field under the terms of an operating service agreement (OSA). The field had produced a cumulative 888 million barrels of oil at that stage.When Chevron took over operations, Boscán was producing just under 80,000 b/d.
