Can the Norwegian Barents Sea help solve Europe's gas crisis?
Report summary
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has brought a potential Barents Sea export route back onto the agenda, as Norway looks to maintain current production levels and continue to be a key gas supplier to the European market. A proposed pipeline would connect Barents Sea gas to Europe, but without government intervention, the economics are challenged. Despite significant gas resources already discovered in the basin, most remain undeveloped. Development of the gas would offer a cleaner alternative to LNG imports and would help alleviate Norwegian gas production decline.
