CNRL's $6.5 billion acquisition of Chevron's Albian Oil Sands Project and Duvernay working interests, marks a rare acquisition of non operating integrated oil sands mining positions. The deal will increase CNRL's working interest in the AOSP project to 90% and enters CNRL into one of the larger positions in the Duvernay. We analyze deal value and compare metrics to past oil sands consolidating transactions as well as look at the upsides and risks and strategic rational for both companies.
