Cano Sur Este is a much-delayed heavy oil project and one of the few greenfield growth opportunities in Ecopetrol's portfolio. Located in the Llanos basin's heavy oil trend and adjacent to Quifa (see separate analysis), Ecopetrol declared commerciality over the area in late-2013 and set itself a production target of 25,000 b/d by mid-2016 as part of a five-year, US$656 million development.
