Report summary

The Chuandongbei project, located in northeast Sichuan Basin, is a group of onshore large-sized gas fields with high hydrogen sulphide (H2S) and carbon dioxide (CO2)content. PetroChina brought in Chevron in 2007 to jointly develop the sour gas fields after coming across a series of challenges, including fatal well blowouts, mountainous terrain surrounding the fields, and close proximity to highly populous areas. Project start-up, initially targeted for early-2012, saw further slippage to 2015.
