Report summary
The D6 block in the Krishna-Godavari basin represents India's largest gas discovery on the east coast. Reliance initiated commercial production from the Dhirubhai (1&3) fields in 2009, targeting peak output of 2.8 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd). The MA field, D6's sole commercial oil discovery, began producing in 2008. However, both faced reservoir complications and water ingress, leading to production cessation by 2020. In 2011, BP acquired a 30% stake in the block, bringing technical expertise to the partnership. This collaboration proved crucial in reversing production decline through the development of three major fields the Dhirubhai-34 (R-cluster), Satellite cluster and D-55 (MJ).
