Egypt's 2018 EGPC licensing round: improving outlook tempered by tough terms
Report summary
On 22 May the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) opened its 7th licensing round in 10 years. On offer are 11 licences spanning the Western Desert, Eastern Desert and Gulf of Suez. The licences will be offered as production sharing contracts with 13 biddable parameters. There are various minimum thresholds which will limit overall government take to between 80% - 90%. Although the Western Desert remains appealing, due to its low-cost nature, these terms may struggle to stimulate investment in the Gulf of Suez.
