El Trapial was historically one of the largest oil producers in Argentina. It was discovered by Petrolera San Jorge in 1991 and brought onstream in 1992. In 1999, it was acquired by Chevron. The project area includes the small Curamched field as well as a southerly extension of the nearby Chihuido de la Sierra Negra field (see separate analysis).An extensive waterflood program helped maximize the performance of the field.
