On 19 June 2017, EQT announced it would acquire Rice Energy for a total deal consideration of $8.1 billion, including the assumption of $1.5 billion in debt. EQT will gain 187,000 net acres in the core of the southwest Marcellus, adjacent to the company's existing leasehold, plus an additional 65,000 net acres in the Lean Gas Core sub-play in the Utica.
