On 15 August 2019, operator Equinor (65.11%) announced it had started production at its flagship Mariner project in the UK’s northern North Sea. At reserves of over 300 mmbbl, it’s the largest heavy oil project to start production in the UK since Captain in 1997. In this inform we analyse the economics at Mariner, as well as it's environmental impact and the implications of Mariner production on light-heavy oil market spreads.
