The Espinal block contains three oil fields: Purificación, Matachín Norte and Matachín Sur. The fields were discovered by LASMO. Purificación was brought onstream in 1993, and Matachín Norte and Matachín Sur followed in 1996. The fields are now mature with production from the block having peaked in 2001 at 13,460 b/d. Most of the reserves are in Matachin Norte. The fields have a high water cut.
