The Thunder Hawk floating production unit began operating in July 2009 when the Thunder Hawk (MC 734) field achieved first production. The platform was installed in Mississippi Canyon 736 in 1,850 metres (6,070 feet) of water. The facility is owned by SBM Offshore and was initially leased to Murphy Oil and its partners in the Thunder Hawk field.
