The Faihaa oil field was discovered by a consortium led by Kuwait Energy in September 2014. The field is an extension of Iran's giant Yadavaran field. It is the first discovery from Iraq's 2012 exploration round, and was discovered by the Faihaa-1 exploration well. The well tested oil in both the Mishrif and Yamama formations. The Faihaa-1 well was hooked-up to a temporary processing facility and brought onstream in October 2015. As of August 2017, two appraisal wells have been completed with a third drilling. These completed wells are hooked up to individual facilities with current total capacity of 15,000 b/d.
