Report summaryGreater Burgan is one of the world's largest oil fields. It ranks third behind Ghawar and Safaniyah in neighbouring Saudi Arabia, but is widely regarded as the largest sandstone onshore oil reservoir in the world. The field extends around 750 km2, and lies south of Kuwait city, adjacent to the country's southeast coast, at the head of the Gulf. Greater Burgan is Kuwait's dedicated 'swing producer' and will be producing large volumes of crude oil and associated gas for many decades to come.
