Halfaya is located in the Missan province, 350 kilometres southeast of Baghdad. It was discovered in the 1970s but remained largely undeveloped until the award of a technical service contract (TSC) in 2010. The contract is operated by PetroChina in joint venture with Total and PETRONAS. The development includes three phases, aiming to raise capacity to 400,000 b/d.
