On 29 May 2017, Husky sanctioned the West White Rose Project offshore Newfoundland and Labrador, making it the first major project sanction in the area since 2012. The project is estimated to cost a total of Cdn$5.2 billion and ultimately recover 180 million barrels of light oil. First oil is expected in 2022, with peak production of 75,000 b/d occurring in 2025. In the same news release, Husky announced a new oil discovery at Northwest White Rose, approximately 11 kilometres away from the SeaRose FPSO.
