On 1 September 2022, Shell and ExxonMobil announced agreements to sell their respective interests in Aera Energy to IKAV subsidiary Green Gate Resources. Shell will receive US$2 billion in cash with additional payments contingent on unspecified future oil price conditions. This implies a total deal consideration of around US$4 billion although ExxonMobil did not disclose its sale price.
