The In Amenas fields discovered between 1956 and 1963 are located in southeast Algeria around 80 kilometres from the Libyan border. In 1998 Amoco now BP signed a PSC to develop the four wet gas fields. Statoil acquired 50% of BP's equity in 2003 and the partners achieved first production in late May 2006.
