The In Amenas fields, discovered between 1956 and 1963, are located in southeast Algeria around 80 kilometres from the Libyan border. In 1998 Amoco, now BP, signed a PSC to develop the four wet gas fields. Statoil acquired 50% of BP's equity in 2003 and the partners achieved first production in late May 2006.
