Report summary

The Karamay field which was previously known as Heiyoushan oil field was discovered in 1955. The field is situated in the northwestern part of the Junggar basin. Historically the field was the largest producer in the Junggar basin. Despite decades of development and a number of new projects commencing Karamay still accounts for more than one third of PetroChina's output from the basin.
