Karan is a gas field located in shallow waters, 80 kilometres off Saudi Arabia's east coast. The Karan Gas Project was the first non-associated offshore gas development in Saudi Arabia.In 2006, Saudi Aramco discovered a large gas column in the Upper Permian Khuff carbonate reservoir, beneath a sub-commercial oil reservoir drilled in the 1960s.
