The Kazgermunai (KGM) JV operates several oil fields in the South Turgai basin, with most production from the Akshabulak deposits. KGM is 50%-owned by state-run NC KazMunaiGas (NC KMG) and 50% by PetroKazakhstan, the basin's dominant operator. KazMunaiGas EP (KMG EP), NC KMG's subsidiary, holds a 33% interest in PetroKazakhstan, alongside CNPC and PetroChina.Oil production is now around 20,000 b/d, which is less than a third of the plateau level achieved until the late 2010s.
