The Kharsang oil and gas field is located in the Upper Assam Valley, in the state of Arunachal Pradesh, in northeast India. Discovered by Oil India Ltd (OIL) in the 1970s, a production sharing contract (PSC) was offered to develop and operate the field in 1992, under India's first Field Development Licensing Round for small and medium fields. A PSC was awarded in 1995 to a joint venture led by GeoEnpro.
