Khurmala Dome is the northern section of the Kirkuk field and is located 35 kilometres southwest of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan region of Iraq (KRI). It has been under the control of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) since 2007. The KAR Group, a Kurdistan-based oil services company, operates the field. Processing capacity at the field is 200,000 b/d, following an expansion in 2018. The Kirkuk field is a huge anticline with three discrete structural culminations separated by large saddles and extending across the provincial boundary between Kirkuk and Erbil provinces. The dome to the north, Khurmala, is located within the KRG-administered province of Erbil.
