The National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) discovered the giant Kish gas field in 2006. Located beneath Kish Island in the Persian/Arabian Gulf, this field holds approximately 40 tcf of recoverable gas resources. In 2007, NIOC signed an initial contract worth US$2.2 billion with the Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC).
