M'Boundi is a large pre-salt oil and gas field located onshore Congo. It was discovered in 2001 by Maurel & Prom, and brought onstream the following year. After an extensive drilling programme, production peaked at 56,000 b/d in 2006. Eni became the operator of M'Boundi in 2007 when it acquired most of Maurel & Prom's Congolese assets for US$1.4 billion. Later in 2007, Eni purchased Burren Energy - one of the other main partners in the field - for US$3.5 billion, leaving Eni with an 83% share in the asset.
