MENA upstream 2017 in review: gas growth lights up the region
Report summary
Gas was a major theme across the MENA region in 2017, with project start-ups, final investment decisions, significant ramp-up at existing projects and ongoing investment in major new projects. New gas start-ups in 2017 will add nearly 6.5 bcfd by 2020 thanks to sustained spend on gas related projects, especially Egypt. At the same time, despite OPEC oil production cuts, investment to expand capacity continued in 2017. Although fewer discoveries were made in 2017, exploration drilling and discovered liquids volumes were up on 2016.
