Nicaragua is a Central American country located between Honduras and Costa Rica. It has no oil or gas reserves and is completely reliant on imports to meet its hydrocarbon demand. Although the first exploration well was drilled in 1930, the country is underexplored. Just a few dozen wells have been drilled, mostly offshore in the Sandino basin (on the Pacific side of the country) and the Miskito basin (on the Caribbean side).
