Nigeria launched its 2025 licensing round on 1 December, marking the country’s third bid round since 2022. The latest round is the largest of the three, with 50 blocks on offer, spanning onshore, shallow water, deepwater and frontier areas. Onshore and shallow water blocks contain discovered resource opportunities (DROs), minimising exploration risk. The round also features one deepwater block and 15 frontier blocks across the Anambra, Chad, Benue Trough and Benin basins. The dual focus on quick developments through DROs, and exploration of underexplored basins, underscores the government’s drive to unlock hydrocarbon resources and meet both short-term and long-term production goals.
