North Field Alpha (NFA) was the first phase of the North Field's development. The project was sanctioned in 1987 and took four years to complete at a cost of about US$1 billion (nominal). The development consists of an offshore production complex linked by pipelines to processing facilities at Mesaieed on Qatar's east coast, about 40 kilometres south of Doha.
