OML 42 lies in the onshore western Niger Delta. Much of it is submerged mangrove swamps lying between the Forcados and Escravos rivers. The operating conditions are challenging and most of the facilities are accessible only by river or dredged channels.The area around OML 42 has seen some of the worst outbreaks of vandalism and hostilities towards oil companies in the Niger Delta.
