OML 72 is a large shallow water block in the southeast Niger Delta. It is known as the 'K-block' because of the type of faulting prevalent, it contains the Kalaekule oil field (also known as KC field) which started production in 1986. Crude was sent by pipeline to the nearby Bonny oil terminal, where it was processed and exported. Production ceased in 2002 following a dramatic decline and a sudden increase in water cuts.
