The Pedernales field is operated by the Petrowarao joint venture (empresa mixta) in which PDVSA has a majority share and control. Studies into a water injection programme were conducted in 2008 and pilot tests started in 2009. It is still unclear if, or when, the water injection programme will be applied to the entire field as the Ambrosio field is a bigger focus for the Petrowarao JV.
