The Perla gas field lies in the Cardón IV block in the shallow waters of the Gulf of Venezuela's Falcón basin. Repsol and Eni were awarded the Cardón IV exploration licence in 2005.In September 2009, the first well drilled on the block discovered the giant Perla gas field.
