PETRONAS gained a position in western Canada in 2011 through a JV with Progress Energy Resources, a gas-focused producer with an impressive Montney land base in the Altares, Lily and Katha areas of British Columbia. PETRONAS subsequently acquired Progress in December 2012. Its position was further enhanced in 2013 by the acquisition of Montney acreage from Talisman.
