The Sepat Deep oil field was discovered on unlicensed acreage in 2003 by Petronas Carigali. Initial exploration in the Sepat area had discovered gas, but the Sepat Deep-1 well encountered a deeper oil rim, underlying the main gas-bearing reservoir. Petronas Carigali was awarded a PSC for the Sepat Deep field in Q2 2010.
