Qatar is one of the world's leading oil and gas producers, with output of 5 million boe per day in 2014. Around 85% of this is gas. The country's major asset is the offshore North Field - a mega-regional anticline measuring 11,000 km2 shared with Iran. The gross gas reserves of the North Field in Qatar are estimated at around 900 trillion cubic feet (tcf), placing the country amongst the world's top gas resource-holders after Russia, Iran and the US. The gas is liquids-rich.
