Rincon la Ceniza is a field in the Vaca Muerta shale wet gas and condensate window. It is one of a handful of projects in the Vaca Muerta shale that has moved to pilot stage development. The Los Molles and Vaca Muerta shales are the principal source rocks in the Neuquén basin. These formations are both organic rich, black and dark grey marine shales. The Los Molles is interspersed with turbidite sands. The Vaca Muerta formation lies at the Lower Cretaceous-Upper Jurassic interval and is the primary target for current shale exploration. The Vaca Muerta contains a massive Type II kerogen layer.
