TPAO, Türkiye's state energy firm, operates the giant Sakarya gas field and other ultra-deepwater deposits in the Black Sea. The discoveries have been made since 2020. Sakarya is the biggest-ever hydrocarbon find in the Black Sea and the largest in Türkiye's history. The project is of immense national importance for the country, which is hugely reliant on energy imports.
