The Salman (formerly Sassan) field is located in the Persian/Arabian Gulf, 142 kilometres south of Lavan Island. It extends across the maritime boundary with the United Arab Emirates, where it is known as Abu Al Bukhoosh. Over two-thirds of the field lies within Iran's territorial waters.Oil production from the field began in 1968, peaking at 195,000 b/d in the 1970s.
