The Salman (formerly Sassan) field is located in the Persian Gulf, 142 kilometres south of Lavan Island. It extends across the maritime boundary with the United Arab Emirates, where it is known as Abu Al Bukhoosh. 75% of the field is in Iran's territorial waters.The field came onstream in 1968 and its production peaked at 195,000 b/d in the 1970s.
