Exploration has taken place in Serbia since the 1940s. The first gas field was discovered in 1949, followed by the first oil field in 1952. Exploration activity has focussed on the Vojvodina region of northern Serbia, where the majority of fields have been discovered. Exploration in central Serbia began in 1990 and a number of small oil and gas fields have been found. Production peaked in the late 1970s to early 1980s at 26,000 b/d of oil and 109 mmcfd of gas, then declined due to ...
