The South Pars oil layer (SPOL) is located in the Persian Gulf and is shared with Qatar, where it is called Al Shaheen. The field consists of a series of Cretaceous reservoirs above the deep Permian Dalan gas reservoirs of the super-giant South Pars gas field.
