The upstream sector in Tanzania is dominated by gas - Large undeveloped gas discoveries have been made in the deepwater sector and smaller onshore fields feed the domestic markets. Deepwater exploration began in 2010 - The BG-Ophir partnership made the first gas discoveries. Since then, the partners and the Equinor-led JV (until May 2018 known as Statoil) on Block 2 have discovered over 37 tcf of gas.
