Tishreen is a large, heavy oil field in northeast Syria. Sinopec acquired the asset in 2008 and is the sole contractor and operator of the Tishreen Production Sharing Contract (PSC). Production has been constrained since 2011 because of the EU's oil embargo on Syrian crude and the ongoing conflict . Tishreen has the potential to become one of Syria's larger producing assets but it will be challenging to develop. Sinopec would need to accelerate development drilling, expand the thermal EOR programme and invest in a major facilities upgrade.
