Topkhana is located in the southern part of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), about 90 kilometres southeast of Kirkuk, and adjacent to the Kurdamir field. Repsol assumed operatorship of Topkhana following after its acquisition of Talisman in May 2015. In September 2019, Repsol sold its operating stake in Kurdamir to its partner, WesternZagros, a wholly owned subsidiary of Crest Energy International.
