Deal Insight
Total doubles down in Denmark - acquiring Chevron Denmark Inc.
Report summary
Total is set to become the largest player in Denmark after its acquisition Chevron's Denmark business. The deal will see Total increase its stake in the Danish Underground Consortium, a joint venture between Total, Shell, Chevron and Nordsøfonden. This deal marks another stage in the changing of the guard in Denmark, after 2017 saw a number of legacy players exit the Danish Shelf, including Maersk Oil and DONG Energy. Now, Chevron will be added to the list as it focuses on its tight oil position in the Permian and commercialising recent exploration success in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. As for Total, it has positioned itself as the leading operator in Denmark, following its acquisition of Maersk's upstream business. It will hold the largest stake in the DUC partnership that dominates production in Denmark.
